Anime Reel 2013 - Evangelion Movie Announced

I love Reel Anime.
It brings Australia and New Zealand the chance to watch anime on the big screen. Last year I got to see Wolf Children, which was excellent - this year I hope to see all the films, no matter what they are (though I have some speculations and theories on what may be the other three mystery movies to be in the 2013 Anime Reel.)
Though first it's time to discuss one movie's unveiling to be in theaters later this year. And that's the wildly demanded third movie of Evangelion - You Can (Not) Redo.

The original Evangelion series is classic deconstruction of the 'mecha' genre. There are some pretty screwed up characters in Evangelion, with psychological problems abound. But whether you liked the series for that or not I was personally pumped when I found out about the movie remakes coming out with updated animation, new scenes and an all new alternate retelling.

Well moving on. One of the films revealed to be showing theatrically in cinemas in New Zealand and Australia has revealed itself - Evangelion You Can (Not) Redo. The third movie in this retelling of the original series. It will show as apart of Anime Reel along with three other mystery titles later this year so if you're in NZ and Australia and you're eagerly awaiting this movie then get your body ready for more epicness on the big screen.

As for my speculation on what will air beside it I have a few theories - the two new Ghibli movies coming out this year is my strongest hunch. There are coming out next season simultaneously. One is Kaze Tachinu - directed and written by Hayao Miyazaki (yeah, he's back!). It will be based on a novel by Hori Tatsuo and is about a girl who is suffering from tuberculosis and the real-life engineer Horikoshi Jiro.
The other, Kaguya-hime no Monogatari, will be directed and written by Takahata Isao. It's based on an old Japanese folktale.

My other theory for the last film will be the Madoka Magica sequel. Australia got the recap movies that aired late night from 9 until 1 in the morning. New Zealand missed out on that, but since Anime Reel is paired with New Zealand we may get the third movie. This is a stretch, but I do hope we do.

Well we'll have to wait until the three other mystery titles are revealed, which I've heard will be at the Supanova Pop Culture Festival. Either way this is going to be one awesome reel, that's for sure!

Until next time.

Same here. Ah, I'm so pumped to see anime on the big screen again. Nothing beats popcorn, food, coke, a comfy chair and a big-screen HD viewing of my most anticipated movies. cx
